I never forgot my little daughter Dollie while I was away and was always looking for some little something to send home to her.  In 1863 that little something was a pony.  I wish I could have been at home when it arrived.

My dear Daughter, I have been sick but am now getting well. Your mother is well and will woon come home to see you. I am sending your little pony to you by uncle ? ? you mudt not go about her she will kick you! she is very wild and kicks but when I come home I will train her for you so you can ride her. You must be a good girl and love your Ma and Pa & Grandma and all good people. Take good care of your birdies. Your Father, John A. Logan
